Behind the Design: A Rustic, Brooklyn-Inspired Wedding for Anna and Dave
I recently had the pleasure of working with Anna and Dave, a wonderful couple who wanted their wedding to feel as personal and meaningful as possible. They had a clear vision for a rustic theme infused with personal touches—most notably, a nod to their love of Brooklyn, specifically the Brooklyn Bridge. Together, we crafted a design suite that captured their personalities and the intimate vibe they were going for. Here’s a look at the design process behind their dream day.
Anna and Dave wanted their logo to incorporate Brooklyn, which holds a special place in their hearts. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, I created a custom wedding icon that told their story through letterforms. The ‘A’ for Anna elegantly transitions into the arched suspender cables of the bridge, with the main structure forming the right side of the letter. This seamlessly flows into the ‘D’ for Dave, symbolizing the connection between the two of them. The design was more than just a logo; it became a piece of their personal branding for the day, adding a unique, local touch to their wedding identity.
The letters not only represented their names but also came together like the bridge itself, blending effortlessly into one another, just like Anna and Dave do. This design element became a focal point throughout their wedding stationery, creating a cohesive look across every piece.
For the invites, Anna and Dave went with my signature Design by Domo ticket-style layout. We created a two-panel system—one for the essential wedding details like the menu, wedding info, and RSVP, and the other for a small tear-away postcard. This allowed guests to easily RSVP by mail, something Anna and Dave loved for its simplicity. There was also a smaller, tear-away panel that included a pocket-sized map and schedule of the day. Guests could tuck it into their purse or jacket for easy reference throughout the day.
To differentiate between day and evening guests, we used two shades of green from the wedding color palette, adding a touch of practicality to the beauty. Each invitation was finished with a custom wax seal for an extra rustic, handcrafted feel. All items were printed on specialist paper stocks with white ink, which gave the pieces an elegant yet understated look—perfect for the rustic charm they were after.
The day-of materials carried the same design language from the invites. I created table numbers and place cards that were displayed in log slices—an earthy, rustic touch that tied back to their theme. Their table plan was especially unique. A close friend of theirs hand-crafted the display, and I stepped in to design the signage to ensure everything tied in with the rest of the designs using the wedding branding. It was such a lovely, hands-on touch that really spoke to their personality as a couple.
Working with Anna and Dave was an absolute joy. They were fully invested in creating a wedding that was not only beautiful but deeply personal. Seeing everything come together, from the Brooklyn Bridge-inspired logo to the wax-sealed invites and rustic table settings, was incredibly rewarding. They were thrilled with the final designs, and I couldn’t be happier to have been part of their big day.
This project reminded me how much I love blending meaningful elements—like the Brooklyn Bridge for Anna and Dave—into design. It’s all about creating something that feels uniquely “you” and brings that sense of personality and connection to life.
If you’re planning a wedding (or any event) and want to bring your story into the design, I’d love to help you craft something unforgettable.
