At Design by Domo, we take pride in bringing visions to life, and our recent collaboration with Studio Five in Wembley, London, was no exception. Following their closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, Studio Five was ready to make a bold comeback, and we were thrilled to help them create a fresh, modern aesthetic for their grand reopening.
Studio Five, located at the heart of Wembley Park in London and attached to the renowned Troubadour Theatre, needed a facelift that reflected their renewed energy. With a sleek and contemporary redesign, we developed stunning window displays that seamlessly complemented the restaurant’s revamped interior, ensuring a cohesive and inviting atmosphere for returning guests.
One of the most exciting elements of this project was integrating the identity of Starlight Express, the iconic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical currently playing at the Troubadour Theatre. As the official pre- and post-show dining venue, Studio Five required branding that linked them to the production while maintaining their distinct style.
Working closely with artwork from the creative team behind the Starlight Express branding, we crafted eye-catching advertising materials and menus that aligned with the show’s futuristic and dynamic aesthetic. Our goal was to create a seamless experience for theatergoers—from the moment they saw the promotional materials to the time they sat down for their meal.
To strengthen the connection between the restaurant and the theatre, we designed a series of bold advertising posters displayed on the Starlight Express hoardings around the venue. These visuals directed customers effortlessly to Studio Five, building anticipation and excitement before they even stepped through the doors.
Beyond the standard menu design, we extended our work to include festive Christmas menus, perfect for holiday celebrations. Understanding the importance of family-friendly dining, we also introduced an interactive children’s menu, cleverly designed to fold into an origami train. Not only does it serve as a menu, but it also doubles as an engaging activity for young diners, allowing them to colour in their train as a keepsake from their Starlight Express experience. This doubled as a great piece of advertising for the restaurants menus where parents were encouraged to share photos of their kids trains on social media.
This project was a fantastic opportunity to blend the world of fine dining with the spectacle of live theatre. By aligning Studio Five’s branding with the high-energy, immersive world of Starlight Express, we ensured that the restaurant became an integral part of the theatre-going experience.
